The marula fruit tree is native to parts of southern Africa. The trees grow wild and were once rare, but are now cultivated. Marula oil is primarily extracted from these kernels, but can also be obtained from the nut’s outer husk. Marula oil is rich in protein and easily absorbed, making it an effective skin treatment.
Its beneficial components include amino acids that help with hydration and antiaging. The fatty acids create the emollient texture helping with the moisturizing properties. Marula oil also contains high contents of vitamin E and C which help fight free radicals of sun damage.
To avoid a potential reaction, before using do a small patch test: On your inner forearm, apply three or four drops of marula oil and wait 24 hours. If there’s no sign of hives, redness, or irritation, you’re in the clear.
